HKS Expands Health Practice With New Office In Raleigh, N.C.

International architectural firm HKS (Dallas) has expanded its health practice with a new office in Raleigh, N.C.

Principal and senior project architect Kerry Bennett and new hire Jerry Merritt, vice president and health practice leader, will lead the Raleigh office.

Bennett served 18 years in the firm’s Richmond office, with the last few years in the Raleigh area, where she worked with area health facilities.

Merritt joins HKS Richmond as a vice president and health practice leader.

$564M Victorian Heart Hospital Opens In Australia

Monash Health has opened Victorian Heart Hospital on the Monash University Clayton campus in Clayton, Victoria, Australia. As Australia’s first dedicated heart hospital, the $564 million facility houses clinical cardiology, research, education, outpatient, imaging, pathology, and pharmacy services. The 196-bed hospital includes seven catheterization laboratories and one floor dedicated to heart research by Monash University and independent research group Monash Cardiovascular Research Centre (Clayton). A central outdoor courtyard, landscaped areas, and café spaces are also featured at the new hospital. The project team comprises Conrad Gargett (designer; Brisbane, Queensland, Australia) and Wardle (designer; Collingwood, Victoria, Australia). Jessalyn Nelson, PE, Senior Associate, Walter P Moore (Houston) Armed with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Lafayette College and a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from Tufts University, Jessalyn Nelson relocated to Houston after graduation to begin her career at Walter P Moore , where she was introduced to healthcare design. One of Nelson’s first projects with the firm was the 19-story expansion to Texas Children’s Hospital Legacy Tower in Houston, where she served as a graduate engineer during design and construction. Her refined analysis work enabled the expansion to increase by a full floor relative to what had originally been accommodated in the structural design. Additional responsibilities included analysis and design of the lateral system and specialty detailing, as well as firm representation and observation throughout construction of the concrete frame.
