Breaking Through 2022 Finalist Now in its third installment, Healthcare Design ’s Breaking Through is a conceptual design competition that encourages industry members to forget the traditional rules and restrictions of healthcare design to answer the challenges anticipated for the future of healthcare delivery. VHC Health Plans Outpatient Pavilion In Virginia

Community-based health system VHC Health (Arlington, Va.) is planning a new outpatient pavilion in Arlington, Va., according to the website sungazette.news . The six-story facility will include 22,000 square feet for women’s health services, including obstetrics, gynecology, maternal-fetal medicine, aging/menopause services, genetics, breast health, urology, and cardiology. Citizens Medical Center To Build Replacement Hospital And Clinic In Kansas

Citizens Medical Center (Colby, Kansas) is constructing a new 84,000-square-foot replacement hospital and clinic in Colby, Kan., according to the website kwch.com . The project will receive a $108 million grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Kansas Rural Development (Topeka, Kan.). The new hospital and clinic are slated for completion in 2025. Aestique Begins Construction On Ambulatory Surgical Center In Pennsylvania

Aestique , a Pittsburgh-based cosmetic and reconstructive surgery provider, broke ground on a new ambulatory surgical center in Greensburg, Pa. The 14,500-square-foot outpatient facility will offer expanded services, including orthopedics and more extensive spinal surgeries. Erdman (Madison, Wis.) is the design firm on the project, which is scheduled for completion by the end of 2023. What drew you to a career in healthcare design? My father works in architectural design, so at a very early age I started developing a passion for architecture. At just three years old, I remember sitting next to my dad at his drafting table, drawing up houses for all of my family members. My mother was a nurse for many years, so I also grew up hearing and seeing a lot about the healthcare world. My siblings and I all followed our parents’ footsteps, with me in architecture and my two brothers in healthcare. During my first healthcare project at Champlin Architecture in 2004, I knew right away it was a project type that I would enjoy focusing on.
