The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) in Arlington, Texas, is planning to build a $6.2 million clinical research imaging center at UTA’s Science and Engineering Innovation and Research building on its main campus. The project will include medical research areas for brain health, including cognitive failure, traumatic brain injury, and Alzheimer’s and related dementias. Devan Swiontkowski, Healthcare Planner, BWBR (Saint Paul, Minn.) Devan Swiontkowski knew before she completed her college graduate studies that she wanted to pursue healthcare design as a career. The Nebraska Board of Regents voted to allow University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Neb., to build a $2.19 billion academic medical center, according to the website omaha.com . The new facility will include spaces for modern medical training, patient care, research, and clinical trials. Cleveland Clinic (Cleveland) held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Middleburg Heights Family Health Center, a new outpatient center in Middleburg Heights, Ohio. Situated in a nearly vacant strip mall, the 93,000-square-foot project includes 168 exam rooms and 12 treatment rooms. Services offered at the family health center include specialty and primary care, a radiology center, urgent care, lab, and drive-thru pharmacy. Specialty care services at the facility include pulmonary care with pulmonary function testing, neurology, orthopedics, maternal fetal medicine, and a reCOVer Clinic for patients who have persistent COVID-19 symptoms. Patients will also have access to a designated area for shared medical appointments, where groups of patients who share similar health concerns can meet to ask questions and share experiences. Healthcare provider St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll, Iowa, announced the completion of renovations at its campus, including updated obstetrics and dialysis departments. Specifically, the obstetrics department features an enhanced patient and visitor entry; new nursery, nurses’ station, and nursing support spaces; and enlarged C-section room. Additionally, all patient rooms were updated with hospitality-inspired finishes and bathing fixtures and new patient headwalls. Infrastructure upgrades, including a new rooftop unit and dedicated airborne infection isolation labor, delivery, postpartum and recovery room were also completed. Jessalyn Nelson, PE, Senior Associate, Walter P Moore (Houston) Armed with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Lafayette College and a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from Tufts University, Jessalyn Nelson relocated to Houston after graduation to begin her career at Walter P Moore , where she was introduced to healthcare design. One of Nelson’s first projects with the firm was the 19-story expansion to Texas Children’s Hospital Legacy Tower in Houston, where she served as a graduate engineer during design and construction. Her refined analysis work enabled the expansion to increase by a full floor relative to what had originally been accommodated in the structural design. Additional responsibilities included analysis and design of the lateral system and specialty detailing, as well as firm representation and observation throughout construction of the concrete frame.
