Aestique Begins Construction On Ambulatory Surgical Center In Pennsylvania

Aestique , a Pittsburgh-based cosmetic and reconstructive surgery provider, broke ground on a new ambulatory surgical center in Greensburg, Pa. The 14,500-square-foot outpatient facility will offer expanded services, including orthopedics and more extensive spinal surgeries. What drew you to a career in healthcare design? My father works in architectural design, so at a very early age I started developing a passion for architecture. At just three years old, I remember sitting next to my dad at his drafting table, drawing up houses for all of my family members. My mother was a nurse for many years, so I also grew up hearing and seeing a lot about the healthcare world. My siblings and I all followed our parents’ footsteps, with me in architecture and my two brothers in healthcare. Intermountain Healthcare Submits Zoning Application For Hospital Project

Nonprofit health system Intermountain Healthcare (Salt Lake City) filed an application with Salt Lake City to rezone the site of a former Sears department store in Salt Lake City to accommodate an urban hospital, according to the website ksl.com . The project will replace Intermountain’s aging LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City. The health system acquired the land last year, three years after the department store closed. 2022 Healthcare Design Breaking Through Finale: Meet The Winner And Finalists

Now in its third installment, Healthcare Design ’s Breaking Through  is a conceptual design competition that encourages industry members to forget the traditional rules and restrictions of healthcare design to answer the challenges anticipated for the future of healthcare delivery. The competition, sponsored by Durasein, came to a close at October’s 2022 Healthcare Design Conference + Expo in San Antonio during the Breaking Through Finale keynote session. Each finalist team had 10 minutes to share their idea with attendees in an on-stage presentation; attendees were then able to vote for their favorite via a texting app. A team from HDR was named the winner and received the grand prize of $10,000. Northeast Texas Cancer and Research Institute Completed In Texas

The Northeast Texas Cancer and Research Institute has opened on the Christus Trinity Mother Frances – Tyler campus in Tyler, Texas. The 85,000-square-foot project consists of 34,500 square feet of clinic space for medical, radiation, and gynecologic oncology services, which are provided by Texas Oncology (San Antonio). Nearly 3,000 square feet is dedicated to research facilities, including three linear accelerators for radiation therapy and 52 chemotherapy infusion stations (with six allotted to research) and four private treatment rooms. Pharmacy and lab services, a patient exercise area, and six-story parking garage are also included. McCarthy Building Companies Inc. (Dallas) provided constructions services on the project, which was developed by Cottonwood Development (Morganton, N.C.) Add to that a shortage of 15 million healthcare workers anticipated by 2030, and the industry is facing a severe supply and demand challenge. Meanwhile, three out of four adults aged 50 and older want to age in place, but homes aren’t currently designed to allow that to happen. Although home health technologies exist, they’re disparate, overwhelming, and often not integrated. Radius sets out to better support the 100-year lifespan. Technology Fosters Engagement At Carilion Children’s Tanglewood Center

Before Carilion Children’s Hospital, part of nonprofit organization Carilion Clinic , opened its pediatric care center in Roanoke, Va., patients often had to travel between several facilities to see their doctors, get X-rays, and pick up prescriptions. The Carilion Children’s Tanglewood Center , which opened in October 2021 inside a former JC Penney site, combines multiple specialties, services, and amenities into one two-story, 128,000-square-foot building. Operator HCA Healthcare (Nashville, Tenn.) has withdrawn plans to build a new hospital in Lakeland, Fla., after receiving pushback from the local community, according to the website theledger.com . The original plans called for a 120-bed hospital, emergency department, helipad, and stormwater retention pond housed on a 29-acre site. HCA operates 46 hospital locations in the state. Nebraska Children’s Hospital & Medical Center To Add $89M Behavioral Health And Wellness Center

The Children’s Hospital & Medical Center in Omaha, Neb., is adding a behavioral health and wellness center for teens and children to its campus, according to the website omaha.co m. The 103,000-square-foot Behavioral Health & Wellness Center at Children’s will house 38 inpatient hospital beds, a pediatric mental health urgent care center, behavioral health emergency assessment center, expanded partial hospitalization program, and a pediatric primary care clinic with outpatient mental health services. The State of Washington, which was one of the lowest ranking states in 2019 in access to mental healthcare, passed a bill in April 2021 to improve access to behavioral health care by establishing a new teaching hospital on the University of Washington (UW) Medical Center’s Medical Campus in Seattle. Jupiter Medical Center in Jupiter, Fla., and University of Florida Health (Gainesville, Fla.) are planning to open a jointly operated hospital as part of Health Park at Avenir, a 4,752-acre sustainable project being developed in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. The 53,000-square-foot Jupiter Medical Center / UF Health Neighborhood Hospital at the Health Park at Avenir will include 24-hour emergency services, inpatient beds, operating rooms(ORs), a diagnostic laboratory, imaging services, and primary and specialty care services. Northside Hospital Submits CON Application For Tower Addition

Northside Hospital Gwinett in Lawrenceville, Ga., filed a certificate of need (CON) application to add seven more floors to its current 10-story patient tower project on its campus in Lawrenceville. The proposed expansion would add 375,929 square feet and 146 additional inpatient rooms, bringing the hospital’s total inpatient capacity to 696 beds. The project team for the Northside Hospital Gwinnett tower includes Perkins&Will (architect; Chicago), HLGstudio (interior designer; Atlanta), and Batson-Cook Construction (general contractor; West Point, Ga.). In addition to the patient tower, the hospital is also adding a 143,828-square-foot medical office building (MOB) with outpatient imaging, ambulatory surgery, and physician practices. Lynn Community Health Center To Add Pharmacy

Lynn Community Health Center , a nonprofit, multicultural facility in Lynn, Mass., broke ground on a new federally funded pharmacy, which will enable the facility to provide on-site pharmacy services. The new retail pharmacy will be situated off the main lobby on the first floor and include consultation and vaccine clinic space and multipurpose community rooms. The pharmacy waiting area will feature a display wall for products. NCH Healthcare System, Hospital For Special Surgery Form Partnership

MetroHealth Completes The Glick Center In Cleveland

RWJBarnabas Health (West Orange, N.J.) and Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey (New Brunswick, N.J.) have topped out the $750 million Jack and Sheryl Morris Cancer Center in New Brunswick. The 520,000-square-foot freestanding cancer hospital will include outpatient and inpatient services, research laboratories, retail space, and ancillary services. The 12-story cancer center, which will be connected to original Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey  via a pedestrian bridge, will house 96 inpatient beds spread over three floors, as well as a floor for surgery and procedures. Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston, Mo., has been awarded a $332,000 grant from the Delta Regional Authority for its new surgery center, according to the website ozarkradionews.com . Prior to her career in architecture, Anosha Zanjani had an established career in the mental health field, working in psychiatric facilities, private practice, and academic institutions, where she conducted clinical research and worked directly with patients suffering from severe mental health disorders. After spending years on the front lines of the behavioral health crisis from both from a research and clinical perspective, Zanjani noticed the significant impact that spaces had on patient recovery and the urgency for better healing environments for this patient population. Reid Health Starts Construction On New $100M Hospital Campus

Reid Health (Richmond, Ind.) broke ground on a $100 million hospital campus in Connersville, Ind., according to the website insideindianabusiness.com . The project will replace the former Fayette Regional Health System facility in Connersville, which Reid Health acquired in 2019. The new two-story, 177,000-square-foot outpatient facility will include an emergency department (ED), radiology and lab services, and primary and specialty care services, including cardiology, OB/GYN, and oncology. The project is being built on the site of a former Kmart store that the health system acquired in 2021 and is scheduled to be completed in fourth quarter 2024. Mass General Brigham (Boston) opened a new 62,000-square-foot integrated care center in Salem, N.H. The three-story facility comprises an ambulatory surgical center, imaging services, and 31 exam rooms, as well as primary and specialty care services, including audiology, behavioral medicine, breast surgery, cardiology, dermatology, orthopedic surgery, and pain medicine. With an academic background in biological sciences and architecture, Y Pham’s diverse interests have come together in a career path in interior design. Over the last two and a half years working at Smith Group , Pham has contributed greatly to the firm’s architectural work and culture. She has brought her talents and insight to specialty outpatient and oncology clinics for Kaiser Permanente, UCSF Medical Center, and John Muir Health. Additionally, in 2020, she was one of six people across the 1,300-person firm to receive a Smith Group Exploration Grant. This grant supports a six-month period of self-directed study and innovation, which Pham used to develop an approach to interpret principles for designing spaces that support users with autism. In her final summary report, she expressed her hope that this approach to designing for autism also unlocks potential guidelines for other sensitivity designs.
